About LMK
Lauren Michelle Kinsey is a Progressive Democrat. That means she’s a person who cares about you. She wants you to have clean water to drink, clean air to breathe, an equal say in the political process, a justice system that works fairly, access to affordable high quality public education, a social safety net to catch you if you fall, safe neighborhoods with features that make it easy for you to walk and bike around, affordable functional public transportation, protection from natural disasters, and everything you need to grow and thrive as a human being.
Because she wants all this for you she tries to learn as much as she can, and then share that information with as many people as she can. She believes knowledge is power and she wants power to be shared equally by all.
You can find her on Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, and her blog, sharing what she’s learning.
Lauren was born in 1972 and grew up in Minneapolis, MN. When she was 10 (1982) she was given a scholarship to attend a full-time school for the performing arts. During that time she worked as a professional actress in the Twin Cities’ vibrant theater scene.
When she was 14 (1986) her father, because of an untreated struggle with depression, committed suicide. When Lauren was 16 (1988) she left home to escape her physically and emotionally abusive mother. These challenging events have made her more sensitive to the struggles of others, and given her a deeper appreciation of how society can play a role in helping people reach their potential as human beings.
In 2005, in Philadelphia, Lauren met her partner Shannon Zee Cross. In 2008 they moved to Columbus, Ohio to be closer to Shannon’s family. Lauren began to focus on blogging soon after moving to Ohio. She began as a food blogger, and transformed to a political blogger after the 2010 midterm elections woke her up to the need for a greater level of civic responsibility.
In 2010 Shannon and Lauren became engaged and they are eagerly looking forward to the day when America matures into a nation with marriage equality.
Both are committed to the highest progressive values and work for a world where everyone is healthy, safe, educated and has equal political power in a government of the people.

Excellent! I really like your new site!
Thank you, Emily!
Great site Lauren–sorry I missed meeting you at the ODP event in December. I’m a newly elected City Council member in Upper Arlington and would love to meet some time for coffee.
Thank you, Mike! I’m so honored that you’d read my blog. I checked out your website and was impressed by the good things you’ve done. I’d love to hear about your experience in Cape Town, South Africa, where you met and worked alongside Archbishop Desmond Tutu to improve conditions there. I’m also curious to hear about your experience with fighting against the privatization of the UA trash system. Would you be comfortable with me doing a video interview of you for my blog? I’d like to help more people in the Columbus area get to know you. I’ll send you an email.
